In general seem to be really nice hotel with spacious room and good breakfast. However, the air conditioning was really noisy (had to turn it off), TV system is a bit annoying and location could have been a bit closer to the city centre.

The bathrooms need improvement. However, the main drawback for me was the lack of business center. You had to go accross to the Davenport and hope that no one was using the one computer they had. The O'Callaghan Stephen's Green was superior in every way.

This was my first trip to Ireland, so I booked this hotel based on my own research. LOCATION: I give the location of this hotel 5 out of 5 stars. The only time my fiance and I had to take a cab was to get to Heuston Train Station (and if we hadn't had our luggage with us, we probably would've walked there, too). We were EASILY able to walk EVERYWHERE from this hotel, AND it was in a very nice, quiet neighborhood. It is also just one block from where the airport bus drops off. CLEANLINESS: I am VERY finicky when it comes to hotel rooms, so I'd give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars. For what we were paying, I thought it could've been a bit nicer, however, that might just be because I didn't realize Dublin is so expensive. STAFF/HOSPITALITY: The hotel staff was super nice and very helpful. They made us reservations for a day tour and helped us plan our trip/itinerary to Kilkenny. I would give the staff a 4.5 out of 5 stars. In conclusion, I give this hotel a 4 out of 5 and would stay there again.

Coming off the airplane and exhausted early in the morning from an overnight flight, we were able to check in early and go immediately to our hotel room which was quiet, comfortable and clean! The bed especially was very comfortable! The location by Merrion Square was excellent and centrally located so we could walk to many sites of interest. The staff was courteous and helpful, but not overly friendly. There was also a very nice lobby bar in the hotel! On the down side, the breakfast was very expensive and not included with the price of the room. I would recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Dublin and would stay there again on a return visit.

Most everything about our stay was great. Like one of the other reviewers, the room seemed hot during bedtime. I think it's because they use one of these combo sheet/quilts so if you just want to sleep under a sheet, you're out of luck. It's a heavy warm quilt or nothing. Ran the A/C with 40 degree weather. Had only one meal, and good oatmeal breakfast and excellent coffee. Only a 2-minute short walk to Pearse Station for the DART. 5 minutes to Museums. I would recommend for families or singles.

I am a regular traveller to Dublin and always enjoy staying at the O'Callaghan hotels. The Alexander is a lovely place to stay, good condition, clean rooms, good service, nice bar. No complaints from me. These reviews can sometimes be very misleading, someone who experiences a problem at a particular hotel then condems the place on all counts. I would always recommend the Alexander and I am already booked up for my next visit.

The hotel was close to all the main attractions, but yet far enough from all the noise. Nice, quiet area. Really clean hotel. Would definitely stay again. The only con was the breakfast was very pricey and not included with my room, best to eat at the local bistros or coffee shops.

This hotel was excellent in almost every way. Price, cleanliness, and staff were fantastic. The only negative thing I have to say is that the bed was too soft for my liking. If you need a firm bed, as I do, this is not the place to go to. After my stay my back was in pain. If that isn't applicable to you, I would stay there in a heartbeat!

I spent two weeks in February at the Alexander. The room was spacious--I did not feel cramped at all for all that time. The hotel was very quiet (except for a function one night). The staff was courteous and helpful. The location was great--I walked everywhere (and I have difficulty walking). I have stayed in other Dublin and Irish hotels that were way more expensive, and would choose the Alexander over all.

I spent the weekend O'Callaghan Alexander with 4 other people. All are rooms were clean and inviting. The hotel is with in walking distance to Grafton Street and all the major site seeing venues, but do bring flat shoes if you plan to walk. The bus to the airport is only a 15 minute walk from the hotel and is about 30 to 45 mins depending on the time of day you travel, or you can ask the hotel to book a taxi as they are very helpful indeed.

A very good value for money. Rooms are spacious, quiet, clean, and well-appointed. I appreciated the hair-dryer, 110 volt plug, and magnifying make-mirror in the bath. The bed was comfortable, and I enjoyed the duvet versus bedspread, blankets, etc. Friendly staff, willing to go a bit beyond the call of duty on guest requests. Well located for all the things I planned to do while in Dublin. A short walk to the National Library, and a reasonable walk to Grafton Street, Temple Bar area, etc. Good taxi availability, and just 1 1/2 blocks from the Aircoach stop on the to-Dublin route from the airport. Nice breakfast buffet, hot and cold items, or "tea & toast" if one prefers something lighter. Would definately return to O'Callaghan Alexander. A very good experience overall!

The O'Callaghan Alexander is just off the southeast corner of the Trinity College campus. It's a short walk to the Temple Bar area, 15 minutes south of Connolly Station and the main bus terminal, three minutes from Pearse DART, and around the corner from a hop on-hop off bus stop. In short, you can't beat the location. The staff are friendly, stamps are available at the front desk, and there's daily breakfast available beginning early and continuing until 10:30 a.m. The beds are very nice (but be aware that a king is actually two twin mattresses) and the towels are very soft and large bath sheets. In the rooms, you'll find plugs of the U.S., European, and U.K. varieties, which is very convenient. I highly recommend this hotel. It's a great value.

I think that everyone I know who stayed at the O'Callaghan Alexander would say the same thing. It's a very nice place to say but the service at the restaurant is abhorrent. I get that Europe moves slower than America and that I as a NY'er expect things much faster than most other places in the world provide, but this place was so bad you'd have to wait 15 minutes for a hot chocolate! And there wasn't even any more than 4-5 other tables there with 3 wait staff. That was the worst part of the whole hotel and if I do go back, I would be hard pressed to go there again.

The hotel is in a very convenient location near Merrion Square, and represents reasonable value for Dublin. The room was attractive, comfortable and generally well appointed, though a fridge would have been useful. But the high tog duvets (13.5) were a little overwhelming, even for a cool damp September. There was a most unpleasant smell of stale urine on the hotel stairs, necessitating use of the lift even for access to the first floor. Service at Reception was regularly disappointing: cool, indifferent, never enthusiastic or friendly. Disappointingly, the concierge saw his role merely as leaflet distributor. But we would consider staying at the Alexander again - if the price was right.
